Wexford County Champs new date & other events

The County Board of the five local clubs have been forced to make last minute changes to the Wexford County Champs. The Champs will now take place on Saturday evening at 6pm on the Bunclody circuit. Sign on at the finish line from 5.30pm. Four laps for A1/2/3. Three laps for the A4/novice race.

The changes were forced due to a clash with a Drogheda Wheelers event which is in the Cycling Ireland calender. Understandably there are rules in place to stop a free for all where clubs can just decide to run events in opposition to, and taking riders from, events already in the calender. Despite our arguments that the date was chosen specifically because the other event was so far away and unlikey to be supported by Wexford riders in any case, that in effect our race is a ‘closed event’ open only to Wexford club or born riders and that there was no objection from the other race organiser we had no alternative but to rearrange the date.

As a Sunday date was not an option before September and in order to keep the event close to its original date Saturday evening was chosen. We know this will not suit everybody but no matter what decision was made it would be impossible to please everyone.

Can any holders of perpetual trophies make sure to return them. Also as each club needs to provide one car and enough marshalls to cover one junction if three or four people are free on Saturday evening can they contact me.
