Weekend Review

  • Keep an eye on the post below for updated news on the Slaney team in the Suir Valley 3 Day this weekend.
  • Well done to Bill Jordan and Mick Byrne who completed the inaugral Tour de Kilkenny yesterday. A lot of us had planned to take part but between one thing or another missed it. All the reviews of the event have been great so hopefully next year.
  • Theres only 4 weeks to the Sean Kelly Tour (30/8/09) at this stage so maybe we can firm up details on who’s taking part over the next fortnight. Entry fee up to 21st August is €40. Extra €10 charge after that date. Weather permitting (ha ha) we might schedule a 80-100km ride for next Sunday??
  • Good turnout on todays tour which went south to the third roundabout and back home. The Slaney version of the Columbia leadout train began about 5kms from home and by Roadstone only four riders were left. Paul Byrne tried a long sprint for the finish line (however his move was disadvantaged by getting the finish line wrong by about 500m!) but was quickly brought back by Alan and Mick. In an audacious counter attacking move Liam R powered by the other three and held a commanding lead for almost three, maybe even four seconds before been put in his place by the Alan and Mick show again. Have to try again next week!

Finally all at Slaney CC send our condolences to club member Tom Walsh on the sudden death of his brother David over the weekend. Remains leave Browns Funeral home at 6.30pm Tuesday for the Cathedral, Funeral Mass at 2.00pm Wendesday.
