Weekend events

Best of luck to all the Slaney CC riders (and to all the local clubs) as we embark on another season. I don’t think there’s ever been as many racing licences issued in the county and we hope the explosion in interest and participation will deliver great results in 2009. There is a great program of local events being planned for the season which will suit all categories from novice to S1.

Sam D’Arcy’s Gorey 3 day will have 35+ riders representing the five local clubs and we only have to look back three or four years when less then half a dozen local riders took part. Sam’s hard work over the years has resulted in An Post coming onboard as a major sponsor of the countries premier stage race for S2’s and 3’s, J,V and L.

Cycleways Cup, Navan Sunday March 1st – The Senior 1 and 2 category race is over 75 miles or three laps of the Slane Castle- Woodtown- Nobber Road -Kilberry circuit with the separate senior 3 category race over two laps of the same circuit. The separate junior, vets and womens race is also over 2 laps .

Licences

I have now closed the hotline to Cycling Ireland as all of the licence and race number issues are now resolved and everyone should have their licence and number at this stage. (I still have Alan Murphy’s and Shane Kelly’s to send out). If anyone has not recieved their licence or wants to apply for one at this stage contact me. (liamruth1@gmail.com)

Touring.

Tour as usual from the TdeF monument Sunday morning at 10.00am sharp. Bill Jordan tells me he’s already booked his accomodation for the Ring of Kerry ride in July so if anyone is interested in doing the event maybe have a chat with Bill.

Another new touring event we’ve recieved info on: West Cork 200 – “The longest cycle on the longest day”
