Weekend Events

Bill Jordan has suggested a route for Sunday’s tour taking in a circuit around (but not over!) Mount Leinster in the Bunclody, Myshall and around towards Rathanna direction. A few stiff climbs on it but he tell’s me we’d all be well able for it! Sounds like an ideal training spin for anyone taking in the Sean Kelly ride at the end of the month. Theres also the option to swing off in Bunclody or Kildavin if a shorter run is preferred.

Bill leads this mornings tour somewhere between Myshall and Kiltealy.

UPDATE: We should have taken the loose sheep on the Bunclody road as a warning sign of things to come as we headed into the wilds of Bill Jordan Land this morning. Leaving Myshall village we took the dreaded left turn towards Mount Leinster and up the “Mur de Myshall” with its 20% plus right hand bend. Anyone thinking a a little relief was at hand by not taking the turn for the Corrabutt Gap was in for a surprise shock. Think Corrabutt gap with grass growing up the centre of the road! As the climb continued up and over a road known only to the ESB and mountain rescue crews, even the sheep were starting to look attractive. (The road surface is actually nice new tarmac on most of the climb and descent apart from about 1km at the top which is very pot holed and needs to be taken with care). The plan to continue on to Borris was abandoned due to time constraints on the day but a very tough 70km+ at a good pace was added to the training diary. All in all a great mornings cycle and hopefully we’ll manage a longer spin again next Sunday.
