Weekend news & upcoming events

  • Davy Walsh, Mick McLean, Dan Szczech and Alan Galavan rode the Paddy Flanagan 2 Day this weekend with Frank Dunne as team manager. Davy finished 16th, Alan 17th and Mick McLean 40th on the final GC sheet. Davy punctured out of the winning break on Saturday and with the stage shortened by 30kms and only a 5km tt there was no chance of recovering time. Davy took 7th in the TT with Alan 11th.  Adam Thatcher took the honours in the U14 race in Cobh. Adam will be off to race in Holland in mid July.
  • I met the Sunday tour returning to town at about 1.15pm on Sunday so the big group obviously took advantage of the sunny conditions!
  • This is National Bike week and we have a kids/family event on Sunday 17th at 10.30am. Paul Nolan will be providng a free bicycle safety check on the Promanade and depending on age group of who turns up we’ll do a short spin down the Wexford road. Microsoft Word – Press Release Bike Week 2012  Myself and Mick Howe will be there but we could do with another couple of volunteers to help take kids safely on the road for a short ride.
  •   A small but enthuiastic turnout on Sunday morning for the family spin. Thanks to Sport Active Wexford for the free t shirts and to Paul Nolan for the support car.

  • The Novice & A4 league sponsored by Kenny for Bikes continues next Tuesday 19th in Davidstown and weekly until it concludes.
  • The SERC summer league which continues on Wednesday June 20th.
  • The Stephen Roche GP in Dundrum is also on Wednesday night and our sprintmeister Ryan Byrne will be out to defend his title from last year. It won’t be easy though as Dion McCarthy and Adam Thatcher have proven to be the two best U14’s in the country over recent races.
  • The National Championships are in Clonmel next weekend:  http://natchamps2012.clonmelcc.com/wordpress/  Thursday 21st to Sunday 24th June. Davy Walsh is entered for the Elite TT and road race, Frank  Dunne and Paul Bolger for Veterans RR.
  • Patrick Dobbs has a contact who is trying to facilitate young Irish cyclists to have an opportunity to race in Belgium during the summer. If any riders in the county are interested if they contact Pat he can give them some more details.
  • Details on the Eddie Tobin RR/ The Leinster Road Race Championships on July 8th are being added to the website page – click on the tab on top of the page. Advance warning – I’m looking for drivers for commisaires, lead cars & neutral service and also static marshalls for the usual junctions. We also have youth races on July 7th in Davidstown and are expecting a much bigger field this year and require assistance. No reasonable offer for either event refused!

  • Its just 5 weeks to the Ferns St Lukes Sportive on July 22nd. Seems to be a big interest in riding the event and the weekly posts and training plan in the Echo seems to have got a whole new bunch of cyclists from outside the club scene interested in trying it. I saw this video on boards and it gives some good advice to the newcomer to bunch riding.
