The “Baby” Mount Leinster – Saturday April 12th

Many thanks to everyone who supported this event. We had 120 people sign on and we hope everyone had a good time. It looks like after paying for the hall and food etc we’ll clear around €1600 towards the underage trip to Belgium.

I’ll only leave out someone if I start listing names but thanks to everyone who helped in any way to drive lead cars, support cars, stood on corners to marshal and in particluar thanks to the catering crew who again pulled out all the stops in Kiltealy hall. Thanks to our friends in Wexford Wheelers in particular for help in marshaling, driving and doing service car on the day. Finally well done to Bill Jordan who originated the idea of this event and was the main organiser in chief.

Pace is faster than Sunday at 27-30kph and distances longer.     Saturday spin this week will leave the car park at 8.30am. We will ride out to Kiltealy to help Bill with sign in, car parking etc. for mini Mount Leinster and then ride the event. Will be around 100km in total including ride home from Kiltealy.  MMcD

The Mini or “Baby” Mount Leinster Challenge is a one off fundraiser to try and help fund a project to send a squad of U16 cyclists from the Wexford clubs to experience continental racing in Belgium later in 2014. Slaney CC are running the event with the support and assistance of the five Wexford clubs and further details are available from Bill Jordan.

We hope to have a good turn out from all the clubs for this event. Sign on opens at 9.30am and the group will leave Kiltealy at 10.30am  sharp

The two routes chosen are shorter than your average sportive but still provide a challenging ride especially for many cyclists who might be new to the sport and want to dip their toe into the world of sportives. That said both routes do offer a challenge being based in and around the foothills of the Blackstairs Mountains and would be ideal for anyone attempting their first Mount Leinster Challenge in May or just looking to build their fitness for the summer.

The event will start and finish in Kiltealy Community Hall, familiar to many as the feed stop for the Mount Leinster Challenge. The two rides take place on Saturday April 12th, sign on is in the hall and refreshments will be provided after the rides. A service car will follow the event should anyone have a mechanical difficulty. Event entry is €15 to Cycling Ireland members and a one day licence will be available to non CI members to cover insurance.

There will be two routes, a short route of about 45kms and a longer route of about 75km;
