St Lukes Charity Sportive, 22nd July & other upcoming events

*** Well done to the 250 cyclists who took part in todays 2nd St Lukes Ferns Sportive. It was a super event and great credit goes to the organizers. I’m sure the event will raise loads for St Lukes.

Willie Roche was unfortunate to crash in the steep descent of Kilbranish. The council had helpfully laid a coating of loose chippings over the descent resulting in treacherous conditions. Willie eventually slid into a stone wall head first which smashed his helmet in pieces but saved his grey cells! John Butler was quickly on the scene and got Willie to the paramedics. I spoke to Willie earlier and following a trip to Wexford Hospital and Xrays he was released this evening with brusing to his ribs and the usual road rash. Doctors seemed unamused at his request to race on thursday evening….  With the rain leaving the roads very slick Caimin Ruth also came down on the tight lefthander on the run in from Sliabh Bhuí suffering road rash to hip and elbow/arm.

In association with Wexford Echo Group Newspapers and Slaney Cycling Club Enniscorthy, we are delighted to announce the “St.Lukes Charity Sportive” will commence in Ferns, Co Wexford on Sunday 22nd July 2012 at 10am.

This year we are introducing an exciting new challenge the ’60km’ route is perfect for beginners and tired intermediates! The ‘100km’ route remains unchanged.

Registration will take place in Ferns GAA grounds from 8.30 to 9.30am where parking, changing and showering facilities are all available. The sportive will leave the GAA grounds at 10am sharp. Goodie bags for the first 200 entries. Souvenir medal for the first 200 finishers.

The route will take us through Kiltealy leading us towards the challenging scenic climb of Mount Leinster crossing the nine stones.
