*** Well done to the 250 cyclists who took part in todays 2nd St Lukes Ferns Sportive. It was a super event and great credit goes to the organizers. I’m sure the event will raise loads for St Lukes.
Willie Roche was unfortunate to crash in the steep descent of Kilbranish. The council had helpfully laid a coating of loose chippings over the descent resulting in treacherous conditions. Willie eventually slid into a stone wall head first which smashed his helmet in pieces but saved his grey cells! John Butler was quickly on the scene and got Willie to the paramedics. I spoke to Willie earlier and following a trip to Wexford Hospital and Xrays he was released this evening with brusing to his ribs and the usual road rash. Doctors seemed unamused at his request to race on thursday evening…. With the rain leaving the roads very slick Caimin Ruth also came down on the tight lefthander on the run in from Sliabh Bhuí suffering road rash to hip and elbow/arm.
