Well done to Alex, Murt, Frank and Alan who represented Slaney at The Shay Elliot Memorial in Wicklow yesterday. The race was dominated by the UK based Rapha Condor Squad, taking the Sprint Prime, KOH and the Overall. Gianni Ponzi was their team car driver and a friend of race winner Dan Craven, who also hails from Sth., Africa. Slaney’s team car was piloted by Steven Kelly who excelled himself on the narrow roads as we also provided service for Conor Crowley, Dave Walsh and Declan Kinch. Great to see seven riders from Co. Wexford taking part in this classic race. Alex rode a blinder with a superb solo effort to bridge the gap to the chasing break who were one minute behind the leaders. Murt,Frank and Alan were comfortable in the main bunch as were Conor, Dave and Declan. The bunch was lined out fron the start at a constant 70km per hr. At 60kms the road surface was reduced to gravel and chippings but those on the front of the line out took no notice. The dust had barely settled when we hit the climb of Glenmalure. With the bunch fragmented it was every man for himself. Five groups formed after the summit with Alex in the second group where he rode strongly to the finish. Murt, Frank and Alan crossed the line three minutes later. This was a tough race and ideal preparation for Alex and Murt who will form part of Team Wexford in the upcoming FBD Ras.
