Frank Dunne Crashes Out Of Ras Connachta

A crash half way through the first stage put paid to Franks chances of a high GC placing with a fractured elbow and several stitches to show for weeks of hard training and preparation. After seven hours in Castlebar General Hospital Frank wasn’t too despondent this morning as he prepares for a visit to Ardkeen tomorrow.  Frank tried to avoid two riders who crashed in front of him but unfortunately the bunch was travelling at speed on a slight downhill section.  We wish him a speedy recovery. The rest of the team finished safely in the main bunch. The stage winner was Brian Kennelly who is coming into form now with the National Championships only two weeks away.

On a more positive note Murt Doyle is leading the C Cats after a superb 10th placing in yesterday evenings time trial.  Today’s stage is a tough 85 mile slog and having spoken to the lads this morning everyone is looking forward to getting stuck in.  Frank and Caroline have decided to remain on to support the lads.

Wexford Wheelers, Martin Gill, was very active in the bunch yesterday and we wish him the best of luck today.

The Slaney Cycling Club combined team taking part in the Ras Connachta is: Frank Dunne, Murt Doyle, Alex Williams, Frank O’Leary, Paul and Declan Kinch.
