Ger-leacy-Gorey-3-day

Great ride by Ger Leacy today at the Gorey 3 day. Riding his first G3D in a one man team isn’t easy and todays stage was extra tough with warm weather and 130 hilly kms to ride. Ger looked comfortable for most of the day over the climbs of Hacketstown and Kilcavan and took the bell over Crannford Hill the second time round safely in the bunch. However a combination of the hot weather and lack of fluids saw him drift back to the team car before Camolin but after taking on board more bottles and gels he was soon back up to the second group on the road as we reached Gorey when the race was stopped, and eventually cancelled, due to a serious RTA blocking the road. All that effort and the race halted with 5kms to go!

Gorey-3-day

After 10 years or more we finally got a good result in the car draw for stage one – car number 2! With 35 cars in the cavelcade it was great to be up at front. Although the day was quieter than normal for neutral service they were still kept busy with punctures and a couple of small crashes. Paul Nolan will have a bad back tomorrow after pushing riders up Kilcavan and Cranford to get them back up the hill!

Best of luck to Ger Leacy, our sole representative in Gorey 3 Day 2014 after Corky and Shane had to pull out. Looking for a volunteer for Hacketsown or Kilcavan to bring a few bottles if Ger needs one. I’m bringing Ger up tomorrow and will follow in cavalcade but have a spare seat in car if anyone wants to come just give me a text. We still need to sort out a car for Monday if anyone is free.

Good luck to all the Wexford riders over the weekend. Weather is looking good so hopefully a puncture and incident free race for everyone. Tomorrows stage is much tougher this year at 130km and finishing on top of Crannford Hill after two laps.

Loads of oppurtunity to drop out early. Please let me know you are interested. MMcD.

Condolences

All at Slaney CC are very sorry to hear that Willie Dobbs has passed away today. Willie was a fine cyclist back in the day and was always great craic to be with. He suffered many setbacks in life with his illness and the sudden death of his wife a few years ago but bore it all graciously and always seemed to have a smile and a laugh with his wide circle of friends. Our condolences go to his immediate family.
