Rita Dempsey & Bridget Fenlon presented a cheque this week for €530, the proceeds of the recent Ladies tour, to Dr Gardeil at Wexford General hospital. The fund is in aid of the Be Smear Aware campaign and the colonoscoby unit at WGH.
MTB @ Curracloe: Thanks to Mark Driver, Mick Howe and Rita Dempsey for looking after the youngsters at the underage MTB ride at the Raven on Saturday.
Sunday Tour: Smaller number out this week on a great day for cycling. Main spin went Kiltealy, Ballywilliam, New Ross, Ballinaboola, Adamstown and home with a few turning at Ballywilliam to come home through Poulpeasty and Clonroche. Today must be National dog day as every dog in the county seemed to be on the road in front of us today. Tonto’s MTB power training in the Raven yesterday paying off as he managed to snap a gear cable! Didn’t slow him down though.
Don’t forget training spin from Aldi every saturday morning at 9.30am. Tour every Sunday at 10am. Main tour takes in about 80-90km at the moment with a split along the way for those looking for a 50-60km option. The two Ann’s (Jordan & Skelton – get well soon Phil!) also have a shorter tour leaving at 10am which is also ideal for any new comers worried about the speed/distance in the step up to the main tour.
Finally – Always wear your helmet! Slaney’s very own Johnny Hoogerland, Peter Thatcher is the latest advert for always wearing your cycling helmet. In this case the advice is not only to wear it in high speed sprints, fast descents or even on the Sunday tour but when ever your using a sledgehammer! I have a picture but not sure its suitable for the website – its not for the squeamish! Hope you stop seeing stars soon & heal up quickly P.
By popular demand – before Peter had the 15 staples inserted to hold his head together. OUCH
Next Weekend – Underage Training: Bill & Peter will be holding a winter training session on the Davidstown circuit next Saturday at 11am. Suitable for U16, U14, & U12 with some laps of the circuit and some training drills. Subject to weather conditions – keep an eye on website for updates.
