While all the attention was on David McCanns recent record breaking time of 45min 54secs to smash Chris Boardmans 16 year old British 25 mile TT, the Irish ladies 25 mile record was also broken at the same event by an ex Slaney CC member. Avril Swan, formerly from Tomnalossett but now living near Cambridge, set a new Irish ladies record by covering the 25 mile course in an amazing 55 minutes and 15seconds.
No stranger to setting records Avril has a PB of 1 hr 53m 31s for the 50mile TT, was 2nd in the 2008 British 100 mile TT, is currently 3rd in the 2009 BBAR standings and recently won a silver medal at the 2009 UCI Ladies Masters Time Trial championships in Austria. I think she’ll be riding in the scratch group if she turns up for any of our events!
Silver medalist Avril, left, with another fairly handy time trialist, Francesco Moser.
