A meeting between representatives of Barrow Wheelers, SCC, SERC, Slipstream and Wexford Wheelers took place in the Riverside Hotel last Friday night. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss ways of streamlining inter club events for the upcoming season. As we are awaiting publication of the Cycling Ireland calender we decideded to delay the drawing up of a local calendar and will meet again on the 9th of February @ 8.pm., same venue, to finalise same. This meeting is open to all affiliated cycling clubs in Co. wexford.
Other topics up for discussion included the proposed running of,
(a) Co. Underage C’ships. – Proposed and unertaken by SERC.
(b) Co. Time Trial C’ships. — Wexford Wheelers.
(c) Co. Hill Climb C’ships — Barrow Wheelers.
(d) Co. Road Race C’ships — SCC/ Barrow Wheelers.
Above events will probably take place towards the latter end of August and early September depending on fixture backlogs etc.
We were all in agreement that the development of cycling in Co. Wexford means to continue working on building the underage section of the sport. Hats off to Wexford Wheelers and SERC whose hard work has seen large increases in underage membership of both clubs. Billy Roche and Sam Darcy in particular have dedicated a lot of time and effort in this regard and their work is commendable.
Best wishes to Gorey based, Slipstream Cycling Club who have a strong looking outfit with ex M&G boys Declan and Paul Kinch and Denis McCarthy. The club gear looks well. Visit their web site at www.slipstreamcyclingclub.com
