Frank O’Rourke Memorial Road Race – 2nd & 3rd for SCC

Another great days racing for the club today in fantastic weather conditions at Camross for the Wexford Wheelers – Frank O’Rourke Memorial Road Race. Slaney were represented in all the major moves in the B race with all three club riders in the main break of the day. When Murt Doyle countered an attack by Martin Gill on lap 3, Frank O’Leary and Frank Dunne made sure the race winning move would not be brought back and it looked like it could be another win this week for Slaney. In the end Murt had to settle for second place to the well deserved winner Martin Gill, who has returned from the Rás stronger than ever. Frank Dunne took the sprint for third following an impressive lead out from Frank O’Leary. The 4 points earned today should see Frank Dunne regain his S1 licence.

In the combined race Alan Galavan looked particulary strong  and was away in a group with eventual winner Rory Wylie for several laps but lost ground on the final lap and Patrick Dobbs was the clubs best finisher in 8th place. Also competing were Stephen Kelly, Gianni Ponzi, Tonto Brady, Ken Blanche and Bill Jordan. Slaney were also represented in the under age racing by Adam Thatcher and Ryan Byrne who made his open race debut for the club in the U/12 event. Thanks to Mick, Davy, Sean, Terry, Willie, Eddie and Daniel for service/support on the day.
