Charleville 2day

Well done to the Slaney team for a great performace at the C2D. David “Corky” O’Connell was the performer of the weekend just missing out on a stage win by taking 2nd place in a tight sprint from the 20 man breakaway group on stage 1.  6th place in todays TT left him in 6th place on GC ahead of this afternoons stage. Speaking to him earlier Corky was feeling no tiredness this afternoon and was determined to put things right by winning stage 3 (especially with Mylie Kavanaghs “2nd is for losers” motivational speech ringing in his ears!!). However an early puncture seemed to have put paid to his ambitions. Luckily Corky was handed a wheel from a rival team car and with the short race cavelcade long gone set off in a lone pursuit of the race! Following a furious chase he eventually latched on to the main bunch and after taking a breather was disappointed to only take 6th on the stage.

Corky was joined by Ger Leacy, Tonto Brady and David Dempsey in the A4 race while Paul Bolger was on his own in the A3 race following Mick McLeans unfortunate injury. Paul finished in the main bunch on stage 1 and took a fine 8th place on stage 3. We think Corky will now join the A3 bunch in 2013 following the weekends results and his current A4 points.

Great to see such a big turnout of Wexford riders from all the clubs taking part and doing well.

We glad to hear Mick McLean is over his operation and despite steel and staples holding his knee together is on the road to recovery.
