Slaney CC Gorey 3 day team 2009
Congratulations and well done to the 8 man Slaney team that completed todays stage of the Gorey. Murt Doyle was the clubs best finisher taking a great 8th position but today was a real team effort with Frank Dunne, Alex Williams and Alan Galavan finishing in the first group having been active all day. Frank Dunne was away in a break with eventual 3rd place rider Colm Bracken but was pulled back by the main field, Alex tried his luck to get away in the last few kms while Alan Galavan was always near the action at the front of the main bunch and finished 9th on the stage.
On a savage day, with over 100 riders dropped by Carnew and more punctures than we’ve ever seen on the race, we don’t think any dropped rider made his way back to the bunch. Patrick Dobbs lost contact with the main field near Hacketstown and was the most active participant in a chase group that almost made its way back as the peloton approched the Kilcavan climb. Dan and Tomek were part of a 27 rider group that slipped back at Carnew while Frank O’Leary’s recent illness finally caught up with him on Craanford Hill where he lost contact with the main field. Chasing hard in the cavalcade for the final 20kms, he finished just behind the main bunch.
