Win Conor’s Bike!

Win my first racing bike!

And help me help “the Street Children of Bucharest”

My name is Conor Ruth, I’m 15, a 3rd year student at Meanscoil Gharman, Enniscorthy, a member of Slaney CC and I’m raffling my slightly used but much loved first racing bike to try raise €800 to go and work with under privileged children in Bucharest as part of my transition year.

Ba bhreá liom dá dtabharfá tacaíocht dom ar mo bhealach go Bucharest. Tá sé an-tábhachtach go dtabharfaimis cabhair do na páistí seo.

It’s not really about the bike….

Each year transition year students from Meanscoil Gharman travel to Bucharest to help the charity “Street Children of Bucharest“. We help the teachers and day care assistants caring and playing with the kids. We experience a different way of life and the huge challenges these kids face.

The funds we bring help keep the centre open all year round. In order to travel we have to submit our fundraising plan in advance and raise our funds by Sept ’17 to travel in March ’18.

I’ll have a stand at the upcoming Mount Leinster Challenge Sportive in Enniscorthy where I’ll have my bike on display and plenty of tickets to sell!! I also plan on being at a few more cycling events during the summer and hope to have a famous Irish professional cyclist draw the winning ticket later in the summer – more news later!

My Isla Luath 24

I got the bike when I was 9 and it was too big for me! The bike is an ISLA LUATH with 24’ wheels and is designed as an introductory racing bike. Its suitable for underage cyclo cross racing with clearance for knobbly tyres and centre pivot brakes. The levers are child sized and bike comes with additional centre pull brake levers. It has Shimano 8 speed gears, a single chainset, quick release wheels and I’m including my Look quick release pedals or the original pedal/toeclips.

It would be ideal for any cycling club trying to introduce kids to our great sport.

The bike is NOT new! I rode it for a few years, did a few races on it including one in Corkagh Park and the National U12 Championships in Enniscorthy in 2013! I mainly used it for spins at home, and did a few longer sportives on it with my dad including the Sean Kelly Tour of Waterford 15km and 50km and the Tour of Kilkenny 50km. It has a few light marks but any 9-12 year old boy or girl will love it!!
