A few upcoming events

Just thought we’d post an update on some upcoming leisure events in June which might be of interest to some of the new members who joined through our novice spins and now want to tackle a few sportives as well as for our more experienced riders. There will be a good turnout of cyclists of all abilities on these events so you will always find a group travelling at the pace that suits you.

June 11th  La Ruta Del Murrintowneo is a great local sportive that’s been running a few years now. The route is fairly flat taking to the lowlands on south County Wexford and to the foodstop at the oldest operational lighthouse in the World at Hook Head and back to Murrintown. There are a few drags but nothing our crew can’t handle. Entry fee last year was €20 (plus a one day licence if not a Cycling Ireland member). There was a 100km and a 40km route last year.  Check out details here: https://www.facebook.com/LaRutaDelMurrintowneo

June 18th  1 point 5 ride. A big one on our club calendar every year this event supports the Trojan work being done by Slaney member Phil Skelton to keep all us cyclists safe on the roads. This year Phil has brought Tomás Hogan on board as a co organiser and the event will also support the Niall Mellon Township Trust. Starts and finishes at the Bunclody AFC grounds this one has a 100km, a 50km and a 30km option. You can enter online HERE or on the morning of the event for €15, €20 or €25 depending on route . This one is a bigger and hillier challenge than Murrintown with the 100km taking in Mount Leinster and the 50km Sliabh Bhuí. Again I think most of our new crew would be well able for at least the 50km. Full details Here: http://www.safecyclingireland.org/1point5-ride/

The club needs to help out at this event too so if you are riding arrive early and help with the carparking or whatever Phil needs before changing and riding the event. If you can’t ride and can help out in the morning or marshal a junction that would be great. Its unlikely that any Sunday tour will take place on the 18th.

Also coming up….

The National Cycling Championships take place in Wexford on June 24th/25th. Again a lot of us have volunteered to help out at this event but Wexford Cycling could really do with a few more bodies to help on Saturday or Sunday morning. It’s a great way to get up close and personal with the Nicolas Roches, Dan Martins, Sam Bennetts and of course the Slaney CC riders taking part!

Eddie Tobin Memorial race weekend July 1st and 2nd. Our own open races take place on the Bunclody circuit on Sunday with underage in Davidstown on Saturday and its another all hands on deck affair. We need at least 25 club members to help us run this event safely and efficiently. This event has a great reputation and has produced fantastic winners in the past so lets keep it up.

If we all pull together to run these events we’ll have plenty of time for more leisurely coffee runs in July, August and September!!
