Fantastic afternoon of skills and racing at Bellefield this afternoon. Well done to all who turned up to take part, to set up the course or to spectate and cheer on the riders. Some great close racing with sprints, pursuits and mass start events along with skills and coaching. Thanks to the clubs for supporting the event. We’ll definitely do more of these events before the summer ends. More pictures added now…. (more…)

Bike Shop League Race 4  - by Liam Ruth

August 10, 2010

100801-02

Another big turn out of over 50 riders at tonights senior race and a great win for Wexford Wheelers Dave Allen who just caught a brave Mick Byrne, who had attacked from Barry’s Cross, and was away on his own into the head wind until the final few metres. Following his win in Swords on Sunday, in form Anthony Doyle took 3rd with Mick Doyle 4th and Paul Flynn 5th. Great Slaney turn out for underage events – well done Adam, Marc & Josh Thatcher, Niamh, Rory and Emma Murphy, Graham Hartnett, Ryan Byrne, Billy Cooney, Conor Ruth and Neil Kelly. (Sorry if I’ve missed anyone!) I’ll stick a few more photos up in next few days.

News & Events  - by Liam Ruth

August 6, 2010

On August 22nd South East Road Club host the Falling Leaves Classic. Races for A2/A3 and A4 and good prize money.

Best of luck to the Slaney composite team of Frank Dunne, Alan Galavan, Davy Walsh and Conchubhar O’Crualaioch who ride together this weekend at the Ballinrobe 2 day.

Pat Whitney and Frank O’Leary are taking part in a Level 1 Coaching Course in Greystones this weekend. The intensive 3 day course covers a wide variety of subjects aimed at developing the coach and expanding their knowledge of the sport in the area of technical rules and regulations, bike position and equipment, cycling physiology and training principles, hygiene, diet and psychology and will be of great benefit to the club in the long term. If anyone is interested in a foundation level 1 day coaching course there are 2 courses coming up in Bray on the 12th September and Dungarvan on the 25th September.

Sean Kelly Tour of Waterford We normally have a good turnout from the club at this event but note changes this year - pre entry ONLY and entry closes on August 20th. Also note the 160km starts at 8.30 while the 90km may be shorter then last year but is a hillier coastal affair and starts at 9.30am

racing calendar 2010 REVISED I’ve uploaded the local racing calendar again. The only race free Sunday in September for the County Championships appears to be September 26th. If clubs have other events planned before the season ends if they send them to me I’ll add them to this list and we can can come up with a definitive racing calendar for the next two months.

Bike Shop League Race 3: Slaney managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in tonights race with the club taking positions 2-5 in a 5 man break! Congratulations to Phil Skelton (unattached), who has improved no end since beginning at the Slaney novice league, on his win and hard luck to Mylie Kavanagh who rode a great race and just lost out on his first win. Big turn out again tonight and nice to see so many SCC jerseys on the start line. Especially good to see such a turnout for the underage event and nice to see Niamh and Rory Murphy back racing while Veronica promises to ride the main event next week! Pictures were purely for photo finish purposes tonight but put some up below.

Tour de Kilkenny is on Saturday starting at 9am at Kilkenny RFC

Munster Express Family Cycle - Link to photos – Comeragh CC had their family cycle last Sunday morning. As with anything organised by Comeragh or the Power family it was a great day out and something we should look at doing ourselves.

Final A4/Novice League Table  - by Liam Ruth

July 14, 2010

Many thanks to everyone who turned up Tuesday evening to the final round of the league. It was absolutely lashing down at 6.30pm but by 7.00pm the heavy showers had passed and the race itself was run off without any rain. Due to the extremely wet road conditions race organiser Pat Whitney took the wise decision to cancel the underage races (sorry Billy, Fionn and Neil – we’ll make it up to you!) and to shorten the senior race, netralising the first 2 laps and then racing the final 2. With no handicap the novice section would have a fight on their hands and so it proved with the A4’s getting revenge for the last few weeks!

Wexford Wheelers swept the boards with Gianni Ponzi taking the win on the night with Simon Lambert and Eoin O’Shea next. Alan Rossiter ended top of the table by the narrowest margin from teammate Damien Heffernan. Prizes will be presented a future one off event. Thanks to everyone who competed, marshalled or just turned out to watch the races. Don’t forget Wexford Wheelers league starts next week and includes novice and underage races.
